Ansley-Litchfield Football Spartans have first winning season since 2014
After struggling through a 1-7 season a year ago, Ansley-Litchfield was able to make strides in the 2020 season by finishing with a winning record and ending up in the D2 State Football Playoffs. This all happened for the Spartans, despite struggling to stay healthy throughout most of the season.
“We struggled to stay healthy all year,” A-L Head Coach Kurt Kuhlhanek said. “If we were able to stay healthy we probably play a team like Bruening-Davenport-Shickley in the third or fourth round and not
the second.”
Against Custer County area opponents the team was much improved this season. The Spartans were able to go 3-1, with their only loss being to eventual D2 State Runner-Up Sandhills-Thedford.
Kuhlhanek stated that this was a good group of boys that he had this season. They worked hard every single day to get better and their efforts showed on the field.
One of the team’s biggest victories came against Riverside in the first round of the Class D2 State Football Playoffs.
They were able to upset higher-seeded Chargers by double digits on the road.
In the team’s final game they played at home vs the D2 State Champion’s Bruning- Davenport / Shickley. Despite losing to the Eagles, they were able to score first in the game and were able to cause quite a bit of problems for BDS’s defense all night.
There were six seniors on this year’s team. They were Hunter Arehart, Evan Samuelson, Tycen Bailey, Garrison Fernau, Collin Arehart and Jackson Henry.
