Phyllis Bailey

Phyllis D. Bailey, 90 of North Platte, Neb. and formerly of Halsey, passed away Jan. 21, 2021.

Phyllis was born March 16, 1930 to Floyd and Louise (Schneller) Cross in Ansley,. Her formative years were spent in the Sandhills of Nebraska attending high school in Halsey. She married Alva K Bailey on Jan. 31, 1948. They spent 68 wonderful years together.

Phyllis loved to do the crossword in the newspaper, put together puzzles and talk about the many friends she’d made living and working in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

Although she worked in and around Kearney for several years, she especially enjoyed the friends she’d made working for the Purdum State Bank and Circle 4 Fertilizer.

Phyllis enjoyed embroideri­ng, making dishtowels,and giving them away to friends and family. Many members of

the Halsey community enjoyed the special sauce she and Al used to make by the gallon.

Phyllis was known as a really good cook; she loved to prepare large meals for not only her family but anyone that just chose to show up. Many a wayward teenager sat at her table and enjoyed Mrs. Bailey’s hospitalit­y. She will be remembered and missed by many.

Phyllis is survived by sons Robert (Delores) Bailey of Superior, Ariz. and Roy (Kathy) Bailey of

Roscoe; daughter Wanda (Gary) Russell of Broken Bow; sisters-in-law Kathrine Cross and Loreen Sinsel; 17 grandchild­ren; numerous great-grandchild­ren; and several great-great grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alva and one son Dwaine. Phyllis was the last surviving member of her immediate family of six siblings.

Memorial services will be Friday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Bobby Brueggeman officiatin­g. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery in Purdum.
