- BY MONA WEATHERLY

BROKEN BOW - The Broken Bow School Board accepted the resignation of four staff members at Monday evening’s meeting.

Leaving Broken Bow Schools at the end of the school year are Ag teacher Maggie Louthan, special education teacher Amy Kozel, special education teacher Jordyn Knight and Language Arts teacher Cindy Fox.

Superintendent Darren Tobey said there are new hires, however, contracts have not yet been received.

The board approved $4,000 to be used for administration raises. The board also approved raises of 0, 1 and 2 percent for non-certified staff based on evaluations.

Asked about the mask policy, Tobey said as of last Monday (April 12) mask are mandatory only in the hallways between classes and on school transportation. “We will evaluate this again on Friday,” he added.

Board member Tim Chancellor said he had a walk-through of the preschool under construction. “It looks good and is coming along,” Chancellor said.

Tobey reported he has received some inquiries about the Custer Building which will not be used for preschool once the new building is ready. Tobey asked the board to think about how to sell the building (auction, bid or set price) as well as pricing. The new preschool is scheduled to be finished July 1. Tobey said discussions are taking place on a school bus pickup on the south side of town, as Custer is the current bus stop location.

Treasurer J.B. Atkins said the budget is “right on schedule. Expenditures for May, 2021 ($795,082.41), were slightly lower than May, 2020 ($814,324.46). Superintendent Tobey asked the board to consider how best to use the CARES Act money the school has received.

The next school board work session is Monday, May 3 at noon. The next school board regular meeting is May 17 at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both meetings.
