- BY ALEX ELLER Sports/Editorial Writer

BROKEN BOW - Because of incoming bad weather that was scheduled for April 16, the Marsh Beck Invite hosted by Minden was moved up a day to April 15. The Broken Bow track team took advantage of the decent weather Thursday, finishing Runner-Up with 104 points on the girl’s side and fourth with 94 points in the boy’s standings.

Taking home two individual golds was Kailyn Scott in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. She ran a 13.3 in the 100 meter dash and she crossed the line in 27.8 in the 200 meter dash.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Anna Lindstrom, Kya Scott, Ryen Haines, and Kailyn Scott also took home gold. They finished in a time of 4:27.1, while St. Paul finished three seconds behind for second place.

Both Makinley Tobey and Kali Staples had a successful meet competing in the distance events.

Tobey was second in the 3,200 meter run in a time of 12.18.2 and Staples crossed the line in third clocking a 12:23.7. In the 1,600 meter run Staples was second with her best time of the year in 5:54.2, while Tobey was fifth with a 6:00.5.

“I was very pleased with our girls’ effort, we are finally getting almost everyone healthy therefore it’s allowing us to be more competitive in our relays,” Broken Bow Coach Ryan Wetovick said. “We were also able to move a few kids around at this meet which allowed us to score more points.”

Qwentin Coble had the only first-place finish for the Indian boys. He won the long jump with a jump of 19’10 and ended up second in the triple jump by going 40’7.5.

In the 3,200 meter run, Daine Wardyn came in second place with a 10:41.6. Not far behind was Noah Osmond in second with a time of 10:43.8 and Broke Oeltjen was third in a time of 10:55.9.

Wardyn and Osmond were able to replicate good performances in the 1,600 meter run. Finishing fourth with a time of 4:55.4 was Wardyn and Osmond was a footstep behind him in fifth with a time of 4:55.7.

“On the boy’s side we are continuing to have a strong showing in the distance group,” Wetovick said. “We are also starting to score more points in the throws which is always a good thing. Even though we finished fourth we were only 15 points out of first place, so it was a very tight meet.”

Broken Bow will compete at the Grand Island Northwest Invite this week on April 22. The start time for the track meet is 2 p.m.
