- BY ALEX ELLER Sports/Editorial Writer

LEXINGTON - The Broken Bow golf teams had a busy week with not one, but two different meets. First, on April 13 they traveled to the Lexington Invite, and then they competed in the Minden Quadrangular on April 15.

The Indians were sixth at the Lexington Invite with a score of 348 and tied for first at Minden by carding a 182. The junior varsity squad also competed at Minden and they took second place with a score of 213.

At the Lexington Invite, the only medalist for Broken Bow was Austin Harvey. He finished in fifth place overall with a score of 79.

Two strokes off a medal and in 19th place were Nathan Reynolds. His final score for the 18 hole course was 87.

One stroke back of

Reynolds was Blake Denson. He struggled out of the gate shooting a 47 on the front nine but was able to rebound and shoot a 41 on the back nine to finish with a score of 88.

The final two golfers rounding out the Indian’s score were Zack Gaffney and Carsten Fox. Gaffney ended up shooting a 94 and Fox carded a 102.

“I thought we played well considering it was cold and windy,” Broken Bow Golf Coach Ed Schaaf said. “Three of the five boys shot their career-best tournament rounds. We are getting better. I can’t wait for the weather to cooperate to where the boys can really get out and start playing a lot of golf.”

Coach Schaaf’s request finally came true two days later, as the Indians were dealt a much better day to play golf. As a result, Broken Bow finished with one of their better performances on the season.

Leading the team and shooting a 41 for nine holes was Denson. Two strokes back was Harvey with a 43.

Also coming in below 50 was Reynolds who shot a

48.

Only one stroke separated Gaffney and Fox for fourth and fifth place. It was Fox who got the upper hand shooting a 50 and Gaffney carded a 51.

For the junior varsity team, Lucas Bell played well and ended up shooting a 51 at the meet.

Finishing very close with their individual scores were Braylan Rynearson, Hagan Campbell, and J.R. Schaaf. Rynearson led the group with a 53, followed by Campbell who shot a 54, and J.R. Schaaf carded a

55.

Rounding out the score for the Indians was Coy Griffiths. He ended the day shooting a 58.

“It’s always fun to go play different courses

and compete against different teams,” Ed Schaaf said. “Ultimately it comes down to you vs. the course and we need to keep getting better.”

The Indians will look to keep making improvements as they prepare for the Gothenburg and Sandhills-Thedford Invites on April 22. The varsity will

be in Gothenburg at 9:00 a.m. and the junior varsity will be in Thedford at 10:00 a.m.
