LBPHD directors announces retirement

- LBPHD Press release April 12, 2021

BURWELL – Please join us in extending best wishes to Charles Cone, Co-Director of Loup Basin Public Health Department (LBPHD), as he retired April 16. Cone has served as the Executive Director of LBPHD for almost 19 years, being the sole Director for the agency since its formation in September, 2002.

“It’s been a privilege to serve the citizens of Loup Basin’s district for almost two decades,” Cone said. “At the Health Department our focus is on preventative care and I’m proud of the work our team has accomplished during my time.”

“Throughout his career, Chuck has been a valued leader in public health throughout the State,” noted LBPHD Board President, Scott Krause. “He has seen the emergence of new diseases from H1N1 in 2009, West Nile virus, and the current COVID-19 pandemic response. He’s led the team to create programs that focus on preventative care and responded locally and across Nebraska during natural disasters.”

Public Health in general has changed immensely throughout the years. LBPHD has grown and become stronger thanks to Chuck’s commitment to the department’s mission, vision, and values. The staff at LBPHD will remember his time at the health department with fondness and gratitude as he truly valued each employee. Chuck’s leadership style and dedication to his staff’s professional growth while being sensitive to their personal needs was invaluable.

In expectation of Cone’s retirement, the LBPHD Board of Health voted unanimously in favor of appointing Amanda Jeffres, RN to the Co-Director role in November, 2020. Jeffres, who has worked for LBPHD since 2013, will continue as Executive Director of the department upon Cone’s retirement.
