GRAND ISLAND - The Broken Bow boys and girls track teams competed at one of their toughest competitions of the year at the David Gee Invite held at Grand Island Northwest High School on April 23. The Indians girls finished sixth with 33 points and the boys ended up eighth overall with 38.5 points.

“I thought kids overall competed fairly well,” Broken Bow coach Ryan Wetovick said. “We had some PR’s and were able to score in some events where we thought we would be able too. We still have to work to do this week as we get ready for a tough SWC conference meet on Saturday. Kya Scott led the girl’s team with a second-place finish in the high jump. She ended up clearing 4’11 to get the silver.”

Besides getting second in the high jump, she also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 34’00.50 and Macy Doggett was seventh with a toss of 33’01.50.

In the 400 meter dash, Kaitlyn Scott was able to put together a third-place performance. She beat Kaitlyn Mousel of Adams Central by less than a 20th of a second in a time of 1:02.45.

The distance events were the main point contributors for the Broken Bow boys team. Both Daine Wardyn and Noah Osmond medaled in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.

In the 1,600 meter run Wardyn was fourth in a time of 4:55.66 and Osmond was sixth crossing the line with a time of 5:01.72.

Wardyn led a pack of five runners clocking a 10:40.34 in the 3,200 meter run for second place. Osmond was fifth in a time of 10:53.38 and Oeltjen was seventh with a time of 11:13.27.

Taking home third in the long jump was Qwentin Coble with a jump of 20’05.50. He followed that up with a sixth-place performance in the triple jump with a jump of 39’02.

The Indians will be competing in another tough meet at home on May 1, when they host the Southwest Conference Track Invite. It is set to start at 11 a.m. at Mark Russel Field.
