G’Schwind joins Chief staff

BROKEN BOW - The newest hire at the Custer County Chief is putting her education and ranching background to use at her new job.

Meghan G’Schwind began Oct. 4 as Assistant with Layout and Editorial. She does layout, handles legals and will also contribute with articles and photos.

Originally from Lusk, Wyo., Meghan attended the University of Wyoming and received a degree in Agricultural Communication in 2018. She now lives on a ranch near Callaway with husband Clayton G’Schwind.

She and Clayton met at a horse show in McCook when they were both still in high school. “We reconnected over Facebook,” Meghan said.

With Clayton in Callaway and Meghan in Laramie, she said they maintained a long distance relationship, often meeting in Sidney, the halfway point. “Our first date was in Cabela’s parking lot,” she said. The two married Aug. 22, 2020.

Meghan remains involved with her family’s Wyoming ranch where they raise black Angus. She has been heavily involved in rodeo. She was named 2013 Miss High School Rodeo Wyoming and 2018 Miss Black Hills Stock Show.

Now in Custer County, she is transitioning to ranch life with a twist. On the ranch here, they also raise crops for feed, something her family doesn’t do in Wyoming. She says she is learning a lot about crops!

She is already using her agricultural communications degree at the Chief. Look for her article on new things she has learned, and maybe a few mistakes she has made, along the way, in the Oct. 28 issue of “Salute to Harvest.”

When not at the Chief (her position is parttime), Meghan also works at the sale barns in Broken Bow and Burwell. She and Clayton raise Angus cattle and also train horses. They have two of their own and may be training up to five more at any given time. They have a working cow dog, Piper.

Meghan says she is enjoying her work at the Chief. Much of her layout work can be seen in the sports pages and the X-tra.

“I like the challenge of taking pieces of a puzzle and bringing it together,” she said. “I never realized the work it takes to make something that we all take for granted.”

Congratulations to Meghan on your position at the Chief!

We are glad you are here and we look forward to seeing your photos and reading your articles!
