District D-5 Cross Country

This year’s NSAA District D-5 Cross Country meet took place Oct. 14 at the Cross Creek Golf Course. The teams attending were Amherst, Ansley-Litchfield, Arapahoe, Axtell, Bertrand, Maywood-Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Overton, Sandhills Valley, South Loup, Brady, Cambridge, Elm Creek, Hi-Line, Maxwell, Southwest Public, St Patrick, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and Wilcox-Hildreth.

For the boy’s, St Patrick placed first with six points. Axtell took second with 33 points. Bertrand was third with 39 points. Wilcox-Hildreth placed fourth with 41 points. Sandhills Valley was fifth with 44. Southwest Public took sixth at 71. Amherst was seven with 81 points. South Loup placed eighth with 97 points. Cambridge was ninth with 98 points. Arapahoe placed 10th with 104. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller placed 11th with 116 points and Brady was 12th with 117.

For the girl’s race, St Patrick won first with 13 points. South Loup was second 2nd with 19 points. Cambridge was third with

25. Axtell was fourth with 41 points. Hi-Line placed fifth with 54 points. Brady took sixth with 54 points. Amherst placed seventh with 80 points. Sandhills Valley placed eighth with 82 points. Arapahoe was ninth with 92 points and Bertrand placed 10th with

97. Ansley-Litchfield’s team had one runner. Jocelyn Ambiz placed 50th with a time of 31:22.93.

South Loup’s coach, Nicole Recoy said, “We had a fantastic meet at Districts. Everyone ran very well and either had a personal best for the season or a personal best for their career. As a coach I could not have asked for a better turnout.”

South Loup’s boy’s team had three runners. Logan Recoy placed ninth , qualifying for State. Caleb McFate placed 44th with a time of 21:22.37 and Uotong Haidle placed 60th with a time of 24:44.71.

South Loup’s girl’s team had five runners. Ivy Tullis placed third with a time of 21:27.02. Ella Cool was fifth with 21:43:21. Heidi Donegan placed 11th with 22:30.26. Megan Donegan was 28th at 24:36.88. Halie Recoy was 37th with 26:28.93.

Tullis, Cool, and Donegan qualified for State. The girls’ team finished as district runner up and qualified for State.

Freshman Ivy Tullis said, “I think the meet this weekend was my best one yet. I felt so much improvemen­t and felt 100 times more confident and strong than in my other races. The course was really flat. The weather was really good for running. I definitely did way better than I anticipate­d. My goal by the end of the season is just to finish my last race strong and to do my very best.”

State Cross Country will take place Friday, Oct. 22 at the Kearney Country Club Kearney.
