Leola M. Schaad, 92, of Callaway, Neb. passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at the Callaway District Hospital.

Leola (May) Schaad was born to Robert and Letta (Deal) May on June 5, 1929 at Broken Bow.

She grew up on a farm south of Callaway. She attended Country School, and rode a horse to Redfern School and Callaway High School, graduating in 1947. Leola attended Kearney State Teacher College and taught rural school for a number of years.

On August 26, 1951, she married Leroy Schaad of Merna at the Callaway EUB Church. They resided on the farm south of Callaway where she grew up. Two children were born, Sharon Louise and William Robert.

In 1970 she received certificat­ion to be the Callaway Public Librarian and did this for twenty-eight years. During this time she made the move into the new Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library.

Leola was an active member of the United Methodist Church for over sixty-five years. She served on many committees and offices of the local and district United Methodist Women. She was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Camp Counselor for ten years and a junior high sponsor for a number of years.

She loved her Lord. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Leola enjoyed the Lodi Extension Club and the Friendly Circle Club for over fifty years. She was also a permanent member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include son William (Janet) Schaad of Callaway; daughter, Sharon (Michael) Whitehead of Richmond, Va; five grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren; two sisters-in-law Verla (Strasburg) May and Margaret (Schaad) Burton; and many nieces and nephews.

Leola was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deanna, at birth; her husband Leroy; one brother Robert May; one sister Wilma (May) Goodier; and a niece, Dolores Goodier.

Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams officiatin­g. The service will be live streamed via the Reynolds Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.

Memorials are suggested to the Callaway United Methodist Church or the Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library.
