Anne Frank exhibit at Loup County Schools

- BY MEGAN HELBERG

TAYLOR - The 10th grade students at Loup County Public School hosted the international exhibit “Anne Frank: A History for Today” Thursday, Feb. 24 at the school gym in Taylor.

Through partnerships with the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the University of South Carolina, and the Institute for Holocaust Education, Loup County Public School was selected to host the traveling exhibit.

The event was an overwhelming success! The 10th grade students led tours through the exhibit for grades 4th-12th and LCPS staff. In the evening, the event was open to the public. People came from Loup, Custer and Garfield counties and beyond!

The students did a wonderful job of leading the tours and answering questions. The 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes asked no less than 100 questions and showed a deep interest in learning more about the Holocaust and the Frank family. The youth were eager to learn and their questions were appropriate and thoughtful.

The creators of the exhibit did a fine job of selecting the text and images to appear on each panel.

Holocaust education is much more than graphic images. The purpose of this exhibit is to raise awareness of the Frank family’s story, make people aware of their actions, and how we treat each other in society. Most people would say they are kind, however, we want to make sure this extends to people you may not normally agree with or get along with. We need to make sure we do not let our differences become so large that they start to divide our communities. Adults and youth, alike, can set an example by their words and actions, both in-person and online.

More than 120 people went through the tour of the exhibit: it was a busy, yet amazing day at LCPS. Thank you to all who attended and supported our youth.
