The SOUPer Band Concert took place Saturday, March 5, starting at 4:30 p.m. This annual fundraiser for the Music Boosters is a great way for Broken Bow band teacher Harley Mohlman to show off his very talented students.

The free will donation meal consisted of potato soup, chicken noodle soup, carrots and cinnamon rolls. Parents of band students spend the afternoon and evening preparing and serving the food along with clean up.

The night started out with members of the Rock Band playing three classic songs. Next, the was the 5th graders turn. They played “Hot Cross Buns,” “Merrily We Roll Along” and “Beethoven’s Ninth” by Paul Lavende.

After the 5th graders,

the 6th graders took the stage playing “Cardiff Castle” by Mark Williams, “Rock This Band” by Robert Sheldon and “Dragon Slayer” by Rob Grice.

The 7th graders played “Promenade” by Brian

Connery, “Shadow Warriors” by Chris Bernotas, “Fanfare and Festival” by Robert Sheldon, “Into The Wind” by Mike Collins-Dowden, and “Dem Bones” arranged by Michael Story. Last up before

the break were the 8th graders who played “Ramp It Up” by Steve Hodges, “Heroes On Parade” by Greg Hills, “Zombie Raiders” by Gavin Lendt and “Skyburst” by Sean O’Loughlin.

After intermission and a stage reset, Percussion performed “Champions On Parade” by Joe Pekas. The Jazz Band played “A Blues To Bow On” by Paul Clark and “Baja Breeze” by Larry Neeck.

Last but certainly not least, the High School Concert Band took the stage. The hard work of the students shone through! They played “Alamo” arranged by James Swearingen, “Armory” by Randall Standridge, “How to Train Your Dragon” arranged by Johnie Vinson and, a crowd favorite, “Top Gun” arranged by Robert W. Smith. This final arrangement was more than eight minutes long with songs from the famous movie and these band students nailed it!

This year’s Senior Class is the first class that Mohlman has taught from 5th grade all the way to 12th grade. These students presented Mohlman with a brand new guitar as a thank you present for being such a great band teacher. Mohlman gave an emotional speech on how proud he is of all of his students.
