The merry month of May!
BROKEN BOW - It’s said that “April showers bring may flowers.” Here in central Nebraska we had to wait until May for the rain, but perhaps now we will be blessed with abundant blooms in June!
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Broken Bow received 2.43 inches of rain by 10:30 a.m. Saturday. A wind gust of 66 mph was recorded for Broken Bow around 9:30 that morning. On Monday, Broken Bow received 0.85 inches of rain and some snow, just enough to collect on grasses and windshields, though it melted by late in the afternoon.
As of May 2, NWS reports a total of 3.52 inches of rain for Broken Bow since Jan. 1, with 3.50 of that received since March 1.
The high temperature for Broken Bow was 48 on Monday with a low of 35. The low overnight Monday
into Tuesday was 34.
On Monday the state high was 54 at Chadron and the low was 24 at Alliance.
On Tuesday, the forecast from the NWS showed the possibility of perhaps another half inch of rain Wednesday through Thursday with daytimes temps in the upper 50s and overnight lows in the 40. At this time the weekend looks good with a high of 75 and mostly sunny skies.
Those of us here at the
Chief haven’t received any official complaints about the rain, only a question or two about what that unfamiliar soft pattering sound on the roof may be!
Monday morning at the Chief’s staff meeting, Donnis talked about the “options” of May, saying, “May may be cold, it may be hot. May may bring rain, it may bring snow.”
This is Nebraska, folks, and we’re only five days into the month. Stay tuned!
