Devotion: Pray & act for a successful nation

- BY PASTOR CATHY SANER

The first Thursday in May has been The National Day of Prayer in the U.S. for 75 years. There are events scheduled through the entire day around the country.

It has been said that there are “Seven Mountains” or “Pillars” of influence in a nation. They are Family, Church, Business Community, Education, Military, Government, and Arts, Entertainment and Media. We must be in constant prayer that Almighty God will move wonderful people into those positions.

The Apostle Paul instructed young Timothy in 1 Timothy 2 verses 1, 2 and 3 (NLT), “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior.”

I encourage you to pray for our nation every day, not just once in May! On top of that, don’t just pray for these important areas, but take an active part in them.

Is God calling you to run for a local or national government office? How about being on the local library board or school board? Is God calling you to teach Bible study or Sunday school? Maybe your passion is mentoring kids who need help in school.

You may feel a pull to pray for our government or for a specific branch of the military, so invite a friend or several friends to join you in person, over the phone or try a Zoom call. Can you imagine how the atmosphere of our country would change if a few or even thousands of people, young and old, began to pray fervently for all seven areas of influence instead of complaining about them?

It is so important that we all find out what part our Father God is calling us to play in the success of our nation.
