Lloyd Eggleston, 74, of rural Broken Bow died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney.

Lloyd Lynn “Cowboy” Eggleston was born March 10, 1948. He passed away Feb. 26 with family at his side.

He was born six miles north of Oconto where his Pa and Ma lived. The place was known at the time as “the state place.”

Lloyd was born the seventh son of Elijah Luke Eggleston, his

Pa, and Zelda Grace “Hemphill” Eggleston, his Ma. He was also born in a blizzard and the doctor couldn’t make it at the time.

Lloyd started riding at a very young age, around four or five, and he broke his own horse at that time. It was a Welch and, to him, a big one. That’s when his love for horses started. His older brothers, Keith and Donnie, helped him a bunch. But once in a while, they would put him on a bronc just to see if he could ride one. Sometime yes, sometimes no.

After graduation from Oconto High School in 1966, Lloyd worked at co-op in Broken Bow until he was drafted into the Army in 1968. Lloyd spent 22 months for Uncle Sam in the Vietnam era. He went to Fort Lewis for basics then to Fort Knox, Ky, where he got his training in Armor. He received his training as a gunner and received his

orders to go to Germany.

Lloyd qualified in firing various munitions. His favorite was 50 cal. Lloyd received an honorable discharge in 1970 on March 13.

On June 7, 1970, Lloyd finally married his high school sweetheart Sandra Elaine Struempler. To this union, three sons were born - Cody, Justin and Marty. Family was always very important to him.

After they got married, Lloyd trained as a brand inspector in Scottsbluf­f. They lived there for nine months then was moved to Minden. He was transferre­d to Blue Hill where he worked until June, 1973. He moved his family moved back to Broken Bow to work for Burlington Northern. He retired after 34 years. After retirement, Lloyd and Sandy enjoyed traveling and rodeos.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sandra Elaine; mother-in-law Elsie Struempler of Broken Bow; sons Cody (Tonia) of Gothenburg, Justin (Karisa) of Ceresco and Marty (Lisa) of Broken Bow; grandchild­ren Shelby (Brad) McArthur of Sturgis, S.D., Bryce (Shealyn) of Gothenburg, Seth of Gothenburg and Allison (Noah) Eivins of Manhattan, Kan.; great-grandson Ross McArthur of Sturgis, S.D. and another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his siblings LaVonne (Gene) Oxford of Broken Bow, Loraine Rodgers of Franklin, Charles (Vicky) of Gothenburg, Judy (Maynard) Struempler of Oconto and Jane (Nick) LiaKos of Lawrence, Kan; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elijah and Zelda; his fatherin-law Herbert Struempler; brothers Kenneth, Keith, Donald, Glenn and Ivan; and sister Ella Mae Casey.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oconto Community Center in Oconto. Burial with Military Honors was in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Oconto.

Visitation was Wednesday, Mar. 1, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. with family greeting 5-7 p.m. at at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Virginia Leila Brown Geiser, 99, of rural Arnold, Neb., was born Oct. 21, 1923, to Earle Wayne and Leila Downey Brown, the youngest of four children.

She entered into eternity on March 3, 2023.

Virginia graduated from Arnold High School in 1942.

She married Elmer “Bub” Geiser on Oct. 3, 1943. They celebrated over 69 years together until Bub passed in 2013.

Most of their married life was spent farming and ranching in the Sandhills. To this union were

born Terry, Rodney, Paula, Greg, Deb and Doug. Rodney passed shortly after birth.

Virginia is survived by five children and their spouses; 20 grandchild­ren, 21 great-grandchild­ren plus two arriving soon; and three great-great-grandchild­ren.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Arnold. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery.
