Custer County Chief

Jimmie ‘Jim’ Carr

-

Jimmie Joe Carr, 67, of Halsey, Neb., passed away at his home June 7, 2023.

He was born Feb. 1, 1956, in Broken Bow to Earl L.” Tom” Carr and Elsie Mae (Jameson)

Carr.

Jim grew up on the family ranch east of Purdum in Blaine County with his brother, Mark. He attended grade school in Purdum and Dunning, where he met Julie Rhoades in the 5th grade. He then attended junior high and high school in Halsey.

Jim and Julie Rhoades were united in marriage on Feb. 16, 1974. To this union three children were born - Rowdy Joe, Katie Elizabeth and Sadie Mae.

Jim’s passion in life was raising cattle. He worked on his family ranch, was employed by Weaver Ranch along the Middle Loup River and ran his own herd for many years. He and Julie shared a bus route on Hawley Flatts for several years as well. Later in his life he worked for the National Farmers Organization, Rogers Brothers, and for various neighbors.

Later in life Jim’s mother, Elsie, moved to

Halsey with him where he lovingly provided her care for 12 years. Her happiness was his priority every day.

Jim had a very kind heart. Anytime you stopped at his house he would make you a meal, have a drink with you and most likely send you down the road with some type of treat, most likely beef or pork, or maybe a fishing pole.

He liked to make early morning calls to friends and family to keep up on the weather, cattle prices, cattle sales going on in the area, community events, work schedule for the day, trucking ventures, ball games and rodeo happenings.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Elsie Carr; and his granddaughter Kailey M Epp.

Those left to cherish his memory are brother Mark Carr of Halsey; son Rowdy Carr of Anselmo and grandchildren Jessica, Jimmie and Josephine Carr; daughter Katie Huffman (Gabe) of Whitman and grandsons Chase and Garrett Huffman; daughter Sadie Epp (Justin) of North Platte and grandchildren Kelsey Rookstool (Ryan) and great-granddaughters Olivia Claire, Emily and Karley Epp.

Graveside memorial services will be June 17 at 6 p.m. at the Purdum Cemetery.

Following the grave side services, family and friends are invited to the home of Mark Carr at

208 Scott St. in Halsey to share a meal and memories. Please bring your chair and a drink for the evening.
