Ballots for special election go out Monday
Ballots for Hermosa Beach’s special, all mail-in City Council election will go out Monday — the same day a candidates debate is scheduled.
Five people are vying to replace former Councilman Hany Fangary, who vacated his seat when he moved his family to Manhattan Beach. The election is May 11, but it will be conducted entirely by mail — meaning voters won’t head to the polls on that date.
Instead, ballots postmarked by Election Day have until May
14. The deadline to return ballots in person to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/ County Clerk’s Office, in Norwalk, is 8 p.m. on Election Day.
The five candidates voters will choose among are:
• Contractor and business owner Randy Balik
• Retired budget director Dean Francois
• Retired Army Col. Raymond Jackson
• Daniel Rittenhouse, a renewable energy executive
• Film journalist Tara McNa
mara Stabile.
Sample ballot booklets will go out April 20.
If you want to cast a ballot in the May 11 election, the deadline to register or transfer voter registration is April 26.
The registrar likely will begin releasing early returns sometime after 8 p.m. May 11.
The registrar is tentatively scheduled to certify the results May 24.
The next debate, meanwhile, will begin at 6 p.m. Monday. It will hosted by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Hermosa Beach Association.
The event will broadcast live on Spectrum Channel 8 and Frontier Channel 31 in Hermosa Beach and can be streamed at hbchamber.net/forum, the city’s YouTube channel or hermosabeach.gov.
