Nunez pitches Torrance baseball past Serra High

Corey Nunez allowed one run on five hits and struck out six to lead the Torrance baseball team to a 3-1 win over Serra on Friday.

The Tartars scored in the second and sixth innings to take a 2-0 lead against Serra starter Irving Norwood.

In the top of the seventh inning, Torrance pushed across another run for a 3-0 lead.

Brock Mayer had two hits for the Tartars.

Norwood held Torrance to just three runs on three hits, but took the loss. He recorded six strikeouts.

PALOS VERDES 10, WEST TORRANCE 0 (5 INNINGS) » Garren Rizzo drove in three runs and Ryan Roche drove in two as the Sea Kings improved their record to 7-0.

Rizzo, Roche, Gavin Peters and Noah Wahl had two hits apiece.

Ryan Anderson allowed three hits to pick up the win. SAN PEDRO 16, VERDUGO HILLS 2 » Mike Brucelas and Jake Harper hit home runs and Harper and Dominic Porter each had three hits in the win for the Pirates.

Boys basketball

EL SEGUNDO 55, ARTESIA 39 » Preston Engel scored 21 points to lead the Eagles. CJ Hardy had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals.

Girls basketball

MIRA COSTA 44, CORONA DEL

MAR 36 » Winslow Smith led the Mustangs (2-1) with 10 points and Courtney Lo, Cara Susilo and Maile Nakaji had seven points apiece.

Mandy Tomlinson led Corona del Mar with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Softball

WEST TORRANCE 11, PALOS VERDES 1 » Lilly RamirezJoh­nson struck out seven and Nanea Kyle went 3 for 3 (single, double, triple) and drove in two runs.

Friday, Ramirez-Johnson allowed two hits and struck out 10 in a 3-0 win over Irvine. Kyle had three hits and two stolen bases. Hailey Cowing and Serena Hopkins had two hits apiece. TORRANCE 0, DIAMOND RANCH 0 » Ryann Orange allowed one hit and struck out 13 in the scoreless tie at the SoCal Best Tournament. SOUTH TORRANCE 13, JSERRA 9» Alyssa Yee hit a home run and doubled, drove in four runs and scored three times for the Spartans.

Chloe Lopez hit her third home run of the season and Avery Weisbrook hit her fourth for South.

Jayden Nishi allowed two earned run in five 5 2/3 innings to get the win.

Boys soccer

NORTH TORRANCE 4, SOUTH TORRANCE » Michael McKibbin, Brandon Lee, Milton Oliveira and Jason Moreno each scored for the Saxons in the Pioneer League win. TORRANCE 4, EL SEGUNDO 1 » Anthony Lopez scored a pair of goals and Iain Han and Jose Peredia had one apiece for the Tartars.
