Big day for South Bay athletes at the CIF Southern Section finals
Mira Costa’s Dalia Frias finished second in the 1,600 meters and third in the 800 at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Trabuco Hills High.
Frias posted a time of 4 minutes, 46.34 seconds in the 1,600, finishing behind Crescenta Valley’s Mia Barnett (4:42.89).
In the 800, Frias’ time was 2:14.71.
It was a busy day for Redondo’s Eve Divinity. She was seventh in the 100 (12.25), fourth in the long jump (18 feet, 1.50 inches) and eighth in the 200 (25.23).
Redondo’s Tyler Doiron finished sixth in the high jump (6-2).
Mira Costa’s 3,200 runners all finished in the top five. Colin Beale was fifth (9:32.07) in the boys race and Anna Chittenden and Ella Parsley were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the girls race.
Redondo’s Kai Deines finished sixth in the discus (156-8) and fifth in the shot put (52-1.50).
Division 3
North’s Amira Hawkins won the 100 hurdles in a time of 14.41 in the Division 3 finals at Estancia High. Her time at last week’s preliminaries was 14.81.
Palos Verdes athletes had a succesful day.
William Kirk finished seventh in the 1,600 with a personal-best time of 4:23.81.
Anna Terrell (56.48) was second in the 400. Terrell broke the school record of 57.19 held by Keiko Hector, set in 2010.
North’s Kaiana Kotero posted the fourth-best time in the race (59.10).
In the girls 100, PV’s Ife Ibraheem finished fourth (12.26).
The boys 800 saw PV’s Colin Lantz and Alex Naehu finish sixth and seventh, respectively. In the 3,200, Luke Stefanou was sixth (9:39.10).
Kotero ran a 26.53 in the 200, finishing eighth. North
Torrance’s girls 4x100 team finished seventh (51.57).
Wiseburn’s Jake Preston was sixth in the boys 400 (50.35).
El Segundo’s Ruby Noble
was fourth in the triple jump (34-0).
Division 4
Serra’s Rodrick Pleasant had a record-setting day in the Division 4 finals at Carpinteria HS.
The sophomore set a division record in the 100 (10.46) and the 200 (21.02).
The record in the 200 was previously held by Serra’s Warren Rogers (200).
The Serra boys and girls teams both finished third in the team standings.
