Former President George W. Bush will speak in Long Beach on Sept. 20 to kick off the Distinguished Speaker

Series of Southern California.

The series expands to Long Beach this year, with the Terrace Theater as the venue. Two famous journalists, a dis- tinguished historian, a late-night talk show host and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate will speak in Long Beach over the next nine months.

“Our Redondo Beach location has a five-year-long waiting list, so now is the time to grab a good seat during the inaugural season in Long Beach (at the Terrace Theater),” said Kathy Winterhalber, who along with her sister Sue Swan produce the series as a female-owned, family-run business.

President George W. Bush will kick the series off on Sept. 20. Diana Nyad, the author, journalist and endurance swimmer, finishes

2021 with a Nov. 8 address.

A history-making journalist continues the series in 2022, with investigative reporter Bob Woodward of Watergate fame taking the stage on Jan. 24.

Douglas Brinkley will take the Terrace Theater stage on Feb. 14.

Former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, a longtime Southern California, car collector resident and stand-up legend, will present on Sunday.

Finally, Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist for female education who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize at age 17, is scheduled to speak on May 16.

Speakers at other venues

include former Prime Minister of England David Cameron, author Dan Buettner and memoirist Tara Westover.

Ticket prices for the sixevening series range from $210 to $615.

Winterhalber said she has been fielding calls from Orange County and the South Bay.

“People are excited to discover Long Beach, and past experience has taught us restaurants in the area will see a brisk business on the Monday nights of the series,” she said.

“For the price of a steak dinner, the audience is exposed to the thoughts and insights of some of the greatest thought leaders of our time,” she added. “Our distinguished speakers share with the audience their unique experiences and perspectives

on a wide variety of topics.”

She continued, “We are proud to be able to bring the caliber of speakers at an affordable price.”

The Distinguished Speaker series also takes place in Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Redondo Beach and Thousand Oaks. For info and tickets, go to www.speakersla.com/speakers/.
