Hearing on restraining order against Dodgers’ Trevor Bauer postponed again
A hearing on a restraining order filed against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer by a San Diego woman who said the athlete chocked and punched her at his Pasadena home earlier this year has been postponed again, officials said.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman granted a continuance for the hearing Wednesday after Bauer and his attorney, Shawn Holley, asked for more time to prepare, adding that they had not yet received medical records from the woman who sought the protective order against Bauer, according to court documents.
Gould-Saltman also said the restraining order, filed on June 28, was to remain in effect, court documents show.
The hearing, where Bauer and his attorney will argue against grating the restraining order, is now scheduled Aug. 16-19 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, according to the court calendar.
It’s the second time a hearing in the case have been postponed. Last Friday, Gould-Saltman granted a delay after Bauer’s attorney said they were given the witness list late and didn’t have time to prepare.
The hearing initially was set to begin Monday.
Gould-Saltman ruled last week that Bauer must take the stand during the hearing. The judge declined Holley’s request to let him avoid testifying altogether.
Bauer was accused by the San Diego woman of choking her until she lost consciousness on multiple occasions, punching her in several areas of her body and leaving her with injuries that required hospitalization over the course of two sexual encounters on April 21 and May 16, according to the restraining order filed in L.A. County Superior Court in late June.
The woman reported the assault allegations to Pasadena police in May. The criminal investigation was ongoing as of Thursday, said Pasadena police Lt. Carolyn Gordon, who is overseeing the case and declined to comment.
Bauer hasn’t pitched a game since June 28, the day before the restraining order was filed against him. Major League Baseball officials placed Bauer on administrative leave July 2, which is set to end Aug. 6 after officials extended the leave three times. The league also is conducting its own investigation into the allegations against Bauer.
Bauer has denied the accusations.
