DaBaby draws backlash from Elton John, others
DaBaby has attracted some high-profile critics.
Elton John, Madonna, Questlove and others have come out to condemn the rapper’s comments last weekend at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami. During the DaBaby performance, he made false and insulting comments about gay men and HIV and spoke crudely about women. John, who is gay and a longtime HIV activist, took to Twitter to say, “We’ve been shocked to read about the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show.” Madonna also shared her “message” to DaBaby on social media, posting a video of his remarks on her Instagram account and writing, “If you’re going to make hateful remarks to the LGBTQ+ community about HIV/AIDS then know your facts . ... AID’s is not transmitted by standing next to someone in a crowd.”
But at least one celeb has spoken out on behalf of the rapper. “If you gonna have the Lil Nas X video and him living his truth, you gonna damn sure have people like DaBaby who gonna speak their truth,” T.I. said on Instagram about rapper Lil Nas X being openly gay. him of raping a woman in New York City in 2013.
U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty issued a default judgment against Gooding on Thursday, saying it appeared the Oscar-winning “Jerry Maguire” star was willfully ignoring the lawsuit and that waiting for him any longer would be unfair to his accuser. Crotty said that under the law, the 53-year-old Gooding’s failure to respond and defend himself in the lawsuit constituted an admission of liability.
The judge gave Gooding a final deadline of Sept. 7to participate in the case. After that, the judge said, he’ll decide on damages. The plaintiff is seeking $6 million in damages.
