Galaxy bounce back with a rout of Portland Timbers

CARSON >> After a disappoint­ing road trip, the Galaxy returned home for the first time since July 7 and took out some of its frustratio­ns on the Portland Timbers on Friday.

Rayan Raveloson and Victor Vazquez opened the scoring the first half and the Galaxy put the game away with two goals in the second half for a 4-1 win in front of 15,644 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Galaxy went 0-2-1 on a three-game trip, scoring just three goals and allowing seven.

After a slow start against the Timbers, the Galaxy (96-1, 28 points) opened the scoring in the 27th minute on Raveloson’s bicycle kick.

Portland responded less than two minutes later with Jeremy Ebobisse’s goal to tie it at 1-1.

In the 34th minute, Vazquez gave the Galaxy the lead for good as he knocked in a header from Julian Araujo.

The win keeps an important streak alive for the Galaxy. The club has yet to

lose consecutiv­e games this season and is now 5-0-1 following a loss.

In the second half, the Galaxy put the game away with Sacha Kljestan’s successful penalty after Kevin Cabral was fouled in the box by goalkeeper Steve Clark in the 53rd minute.

Three minutes later, Samuel Grandsir finally opened his goal scoring account for the Galaxy with a header.
