Festival at the USS Iowa canceled due to COVID-19
Festival Electrica, a new concert featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana that was supposed to happen at the USS Iowa in San Pedro on Saturday, has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns, organizers announced Friday.
“Festival Electrica will not occur in August due to COVID-19 conditions,” reads a post on the festival’s website and social media accounts.
Organizers cited a surge in coronavirus cases due to the delta variant and “daily communications with the County of Los Angeles Department of Health and authorities on the increasing local level concern of COVID cases and the delta variant,” the post reads.
“The risk for all of us is too great for us to push forward in good consciousness knowing we may be contributing to a super spreader event,” the post continues.
The post advised ticket holders to check their email next week for information on refunds or rolling over the tickets to a future event date.

scr Thoughts, the Los Angeles-based event company behind the festival, said he expected 7,000 people to attend the 18-and-older event.
Festival Electrica was expected to have 20 bands perform across two stages on the grounds surrounding the battleship, including La Santa Cecilia, Kinky and Nortec Collective: Bostich + Fussible.
The news about the festival’s cancellation comes as other Southern California music festivals and promoters have announced stricter COVID-19 guidelines. Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland, set for San Bernardino Aug. 27-28, and the BeachLife Festival, set for Sept. 10-12, announced this week that they would require attendees to be fully vaccinated or provide a negative COVID-19 test to gain entry.
AEG Presents, which is the parent company of local promoter Goldenvoice, which runs multiple Southern California venues as well as festivals such as Coachella, Stagecoach and Head in the Clouds, announced that it was requiring all concertgoers to be fully vaccinated to enter shows as of Oct. 1.
