TOP 10 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO WATCH IN WEEK 6
Here is our list of the Top 10players to watch in Week 6 of the high school football season:
1. Robert Sarmiento, San Pedro, WR/DB
One of the South Bay’s top playmakers, expect Sarmiento to be involved in any big plays for the Pirates in Friday’s showdown with Banning.
2. Jakob Galloway, Banning, RB
You knew we were going to mention him this week. He didn’t play in last spring’s Banning-San Pedro game. He’s been punishing defenses this season. How will he impact this meeting with San Pedro?
3. Seth Shigg, Lawndale, QB
The freshman quarterback has been through the toughest part of his season. Lawndale went 1-3 in nonleague, with its three losses (Carlsbad, Cajon, Alemany) coming on the road. The Cardinals open Pioneer League play against North Torrance.
4. Carson Hollandsworth, South Torrance, RB
Hollandsworth and the Spartans kick off Pioneer League play on the road at an undefeated El Segundo. Hollandsworth has 10 rushing touchdowns through five games and is closing in on 1,000 all-purpose yards.
5. Mason Kahn, El Segundo, RB
The Eagles averaged 37.8 points per game in their nonleague games. Kahn had a threetouchdown game against Westchester earlier this season. The Eagles kick off their league schedule against South Torrance.
6. Daijon Calimon, Leuzinger, DB/WR
Calimon is one of the top sophomores in the South Bay. As the Olympians begin Ocean League play, keep an eye on him on both sides of the ball. Leuzinger visits Morningside this week.
7. Mason Gonzalez, Peninsula, RB
Gonzalez and the Panthers ended their nonleague schedule with a 28-21loss to South Torrance on Sept. 17. Redondo has controlled this series lately, winning 14 of the last 17meetings. Can Gonzalez lead the way to victory?
8. Santiago Martinez, Mary Star, QB
Martinez and the Stars came up a little short against El Segundo 28-27last week. The senior quarterback completed 61.3percent of his passes with two touchdowns. This week, the Stars travel to HarvardWestlake for their Del Rey League opener.
9. Ilyas Abdullah, Westchester, RB/DB
The Comets have been off since Sept. 17. They’re scheduled to return to play Friday on the road against Birmingham. In the last game, Abdullah rushed 301yards and scored five touchdowns.
10. Thomas Rosso, Chadwick, QB
The Dolphins suffered their first loss of the season last week, falling 30-21against Cate. The loss dropped the Dolphins from first to third in the CIF-SS 8-Man Division 1poll. Rosso threw four interceptions, but will be looking to bounce back against Leadership Military Academy.
