PITTSBURGH » The Dodgers' pleasure cruise through the NL Central was interrupted by Pirates.

Shut out for six innings and down three runs on Wednesday afternoon, the Dodgers rallied to tie the score only to lose 5-3 when the Pittsburgh Pirates broke through against the Dodgers' bullpen.

By taking two of three at PNC Park, the Pirates won a series against the Dodgers for the first time since August 2016. The Dodgers had won 23 of 25 meetings (including 16 in a row) with the Pirates before this series.

“First off, the Pirates had a heckuva series. They won the series against a good ballclub,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I thought they prevented runs really well in those two games they won. There was some plays, some atbats that I thought could have changed the game – namely that Freddie atbat that ended up being a double play and obviously the Will Smith at-bat. But you've got to give those guys credit.

“That's why it's tough to win a big-league ballgame. It was marked on their calendar and they played really well. They did. It's baseball.”

Life on the road has not been great for the Dodgers. They are a modest 10-7 away from the packed houses at Dodger Stadium, having lost series in Colorado, Arizona and now Pittsburgh — teams that might make those victories the centerpiece of their highlight videos after the season.

“Yeah, I mean, I think every team is going to bring their `A' game against us
