The Divinity sisters, Eve and Lela, both accomplished the feat of winning a CIF Southern Section Division 1 individual track and field championship last week.

“I don't want to say it was a surprise,” Redondo coach Bob Leetch said. “They're very capable, and to win CIF at that division is a pretty difficult task. We're really excited for them.”

Eve, a senior, won the Division 1 100 meters with a time of 11.74 seconds. Lela, a sophomore, won the Division 1 300 hurdles with a time of 44.49. Eve also qualified for the Masters Meet in the 200 and the long jump.

The CIF-SS Masters Meet will take place Saturday at Moorpark High, the same location as last week's CIFSS championships.

“It's been a rollercoaster ride for seniors,” Leetch said. “They had 18 months pulled out of the middle of their career (due to the pandemic). One season was cut short, another had a late start ... it's been tough.

“It has been great to see Eve's hard work pay off. She's a hard-worker, great student and teammate.”

Her time in the 100 was fourth-best overall at the CIF-SS Finals, behind Serra's Jordan Washington (11.55), HarvardWestlake's Alyssa Thompson (11.69) and Serra's

Brazil Neal (11.71).

The top six finishers in each event at the Masters Meet will move on to the CIF State Meet on May 2728 at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Eve finished fourth in the Division 1 200 (24.30) and sixth in the long jump. Her 200 time was seventh best overall.

Lela's time in the 300 hurdles was the secondfastest time last week.

“She's coming along so quickly,” Leetch said. “She had a little bit of an injury early on and needed rest.

“She went for it (in the 300 hurdles). She had a lead in the outside lane and fought them off for the win. She was not one of the favorites.”

Redondo will also have Kai Deines (discus, shot put) and Dylan Curtis (pole vault) competing Saturday at the Masters Meet.

“Everybody is competing at a high level,” Leetch said. “Their performances are improving.”

Spotlight on Serra

The Serra boys and girls teams both won CIF-SS Division 4 championships last week.

The Serra girls 4x100 relay (46.33) and the boys 4x100 relay (40.89) were both first in their events last week and had the fastest times in all of the divisions.

Washington and Neal were first and third, respectively, in the girls 100. The duo will be in the 200 Saturday. Washington ran a 23.68 last week and Neal finished with a 24.00.

Serra's Rodrick Pleasant posted the fastest times last week in the 100 (10.16) and 200 (20.40).
