Carson girls win title; San Pedro boys finish third

The Carson girls track and field team brought home the City Section championsh­ip Thursday with a dominating effort.

The Colts recorded 169 points to win the City title at Birmingham Charter High School, with runnerup Granada Hills earning 102 points.

Carson's trio of Reign Redmond, Samira Stevenson and Sahara Wray took the top three spots in the 100 meters. Redmond won the event in 11.84 seconds, followed by Stevenson (12.33) and Wray (12.43). Redmond qualified for next week's CIF State meet in Clovis.

Redmond also won the 200, finishing with a time of 24.58. Stevenson was third (25.32) and Wray was fifth (26.27).

Carson's Mia Jamerson won the 100 hurdles (17.17).

The Colts also went 1-2-3 in the 300 hurdles, led by Anise Becker's first-place time of 46.55. She was followed by Jamerson (47.17) and Jaya Westby (47.59).

The Carson girls 4x100 relay team (Wray, Stevenson, Tiffany Williams and Redmond) posted a time of 46.85 to qualify for the state meet.

The Colts also won the 4x400 relay with a 3:58.29.

In the field events, the Colts' Simone Terry won the long jump and triple jump. Miah Molette and Lauryn Williams finished first and second, respective­ly, in the shot put.

Boys

The San Pedro boys finished third in the team standings with 60 points at the City Section track and field finals Thursday. Granada Hills (91 points) finished first.

The Pilots' Kejuan Bullard was fourth in the 100 (11.12) and third in the 200 (22.33). Adrian SverlowMen­doza was first in the 1,600 (4:30.87), followed by teammate Daniel Ruiz (4:31.34).

Luis Sandoval was second in the 3,200 (9:40.22). San Pedro's Burrell Adams (15.50) and Carson's Jamurian Broussad (16.02) were second and third, respective­ly, in the 110 hurdles.

Broussad was also third in the 300 hurdles (42.18), behind San Pedro's Joshua Patapoff (41.33).

San Pedro's 4x100 relay team (Christian Phillips, Bullard, Ja'Mion Duncan and Adams) was second (42.48), and the 4x800 team (Jason Saquic, Joshua Jung, Evan Hadeishi and Steven Monje) finished first.
