Redondo's Elsa Morin made her debut at running back Friday night in the late moments of the 28-0 win over El Segundo.

Unfortunately, the senior, who has worked as team manager the last two seasons, went down with an injury on the play and was eventually taken to the hospital.

“It was definitely a sad ending to last night,” Redondo coach Keith Ellison said Saturday.

Ellison added that Morin ended up suffering a dislocated left hip. She was tackled for a 3-yard loss.

“She's doing OK,” Ellison said. “I talked to her this morning and she's in good spirits. We don't know the extent of the injury yet.”

“She's been the manager the last couple of years and when I took over, she came to me and talked about playing and we were looking for a chance to get her in the game.”

Ellison said Friday night that Morin “has done as much as everyone else on our football team since Day One, and she deserved to get out there.”

West Torrance vs. Bay League

The West Torrance nonleague schedule is five games against the Bay League. The Warriors opened with a loss against Culver City, but have defeated Santa Monica and Peninsula.

West has Mira Costa next week and concludes against Redondo.

“We have some great traditions with these schools, we know we're going to get their very best shot,” West coach Todd Butler said. “We want teams to test us. Last year we went 1-4 in nonleague, made the playoffs and I think that our nonleague schedule was a major part of that. We reupped the exact same schedule for the very same reason. We want to be ready to do some damage in the Pioneer League.”

Inglewood continues to roll

Husan Longstreet threw two touchdowns as the Sentinels defeated Adelanto 50-0.

Through four games Longstreet and the Sentinels (4-0) are averaging 41.2 points a game.

Mira Costa rolls on the road

Through three games it is apparent that the Mira Costa offense is developing into one of the best around.

With Friday's 36-10 win over Hart, the Mustangs are now averaging 39 points a game.

Sophomore quarterback Nico De La Cruz threw three touchdown passes and Matt Kraskouskas rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

Marnani wins it for San Pedro

It isn't very often one sees a 3-0 final score in high school football these days.

Friday, that's how the San Pedro vs. Torrance game ended.

Robert Marnani booted the 35-yard winning kick with 9:43 remaining to keep the Pirates undefeated at 4-0.

Bishop Montgomery plays to tie

The Knights and Maranatha combined to score 70 points in a 35-35 tie Friday in the rain.

Diego Rodriguez completed 19 of 35 passes for 212 yards and four TDs. Justin Auston had two receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns and Dominic Marchiondo had eight receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Jayden Thomas posted seven tackles, a sack, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Gardena improves to 4-0

The Panthers won a City Section title in 2019, didn't play during the shortened COVID-19 spring season and went 3-6 last season under Monty Gilbreath.

Friday, the Panthers defeated L.A. Jordan 41-12 to move to 4-0.

“Last year, we were 3-8, I broke my leg” quarterback Torey Pierce said. “Now I'm back, we're undefeated, so I'm happy and I'm ready to rock out.”
