Bruins defeat Lightning to extend record streak

Taylor Hall scored twice and the Boston Bruins extended their NHLrecord streak of home victories to open a season to 13 games with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

Backup goalie Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves and Brad Marchand added an empty-netter for the Bruins, whose 3-2 overtime win over Carolina on Friday broke the record of 11 set by the 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and matched by the Florida Panthers last season.

Steven Stamkos had a powerplay goal, raising his career point total to 999, and Andrei Vasilievsk­iy stopped 23 shots for Tampa Bay. The Lightning had won six of their last seven games.

SHARKS 4, CANADIENS 0 » Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 28 shots for his first shutout for visiting San Jose. Tomas Hertl scored twice in the third period, including an emptynette­r. Matt Nieto and Logan Couture also scored as the Sharks opened a four-game set against Eastern Conference teams by snapping a three-game losing streak. Kahkonen, re-signed in the summer after playing 36 games last season for Minnesota and San Jose, had allowed four or more goals in four of his last five games. Jake Allen made 20 saves for Montreal, which was 0 for 6 on the power play.

HURRICANES 3, PENGUINS 2 (OT) » Brett Pesce scored at the end of a two-on-none 2:20 into overtime to lift visiting Carolina. Pittsburgh forced the extra period on Jake Guentzel's deflection with 58 sec- onds to go in regulation, but the Hurricanes escaped with the extra point when a weird carom led to a breakaway that Pesce converted for his second goal of the season. Andrei Svechnikov and Marine Ne- cas also scored for Carolina. Guent- zel and Sidney Crosby scored for Pittsburgh. Tristan Jarry stopped 36 shots.

JETS 5, AVALANCHE 0 » Blake Wheeler had three goals and an assist and Connor Hellebuyck made 40 saves and host Winnipeg Jets routed reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado. Mark Scheifele added a goal and two assists, and Josh Morrissey had a goal and an assist. Cole Perfetti contribute­d three assists for the Jets (14-6-1). Hellebuyck's third shutout of the season and 31st of his career began a four-game homestand at Canada Life Centre, where the Jets are 8-20. Alexndar Georgiev stopped 19 shots for Colorado (12-7-1).

FLAMES 6, PANTHERS 2 » Dillon Dube scored short-handed and had two assists and host Calgary spoiled Matthew Tkachuk's return there. Rasmus Andersson, Jonathan Huberdeau, Tyler Toffoli and Andrew Mangiapane each had a goal and an assist, and Brett Ritchie also scored for the Flames. Dan Vladar made 30 saves. Nick Cousins and Sam Reinhart scored for Florida. Tkachuk played for Calgary for his first six NHL seasons and was traded to Florida this summer. The 24-yearold was a restricted free agent and told the Flames he would not sign long-term with the team.

FLYERS 3, ISLANDERS 1 » Kevin Hayes scored two goals and Carter Hart made 23 saves and host Philadelph­ia snapped a 10-game losing streak. Travis Sanheim also scored and Lukáš Sedlák added two assists for the Flyers, who opened a fivegame homestand by ending their third double-digit skid in less than 12 months. Noah Dobson scored for the Islanders, who had won four in a row. Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves.

CAPITALS 5, CANUCKS 1 » Alex Ovechkin scored his 12th and 13 goals of the season in the first period for visiting Washington. Anthony Mantha, John Carlson and Martin Fehervary (empty net) also scored for the Capitals. Nils Hoglander scored Vancouver's goal in the first period.

NOTE » The Dallas Stars signed center Roope Hintz to a $67.5 million, eight-year contract extension. The deal announced Tuesday takes effect at the start of next season, and goes through the 2030-31 season with an average value of $8.45 million.
