Branden Carlson scored 22 points and Utah handed No. 4 Arizona its first loss of the season, 81-66 on Thursday night in the Pac12 opener for both teams in Salt Lake City.

Carlson went 5 of 9 from 3-point range. Rollie Worster had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists for the Utes (6-2), and Gabe Madsen and Ben Carlson scored 11 points apiece.

Oumar Ballo led Arizona (6-1) with 22 points and seven rebounds. Azuolas Tubelis added 20 points for the Wildcats, who trailed wire to wire.

Arizona struggled to generate a consistent offensive rhythm before halftime against Utah's stifling defense. The Utes forced 11 turnovers in the first half that they converted into 15 points. When Arizona got looks at the basket, the Wildcats couldn't knock down shots, making only 27% of their field goal attempts before halftime.

Ben Carlson and Worster each made back-to-back baskets to punctuate a 17-4 run that put the Utes ahead 39-20 late in the first half.

Arizona trimmed away some of the deficit early in the second half, cutting Utah's lead to 52-46 on a 3-point play from Ballo. The Utes countered with an 18-4 run and weren't seriously threatened from there.

NO. 2 TEXAS 72, NO. 7 CREIGHTON 67 >> Marcus Carr scored 19 points and made two free throws with 10 seconds left as the Longhorns (6-0) held off the Bluejays (6-2) in Austin, Texas.

Creighton, which struggled through a miserable 3-point shooting night,

cut an 11-point Texas lead to 62-59 thanks in part to five points in a row by Baylor Scheierman. But Carr's baseline jumper and a layup by Tyrese Hunter with 46 seconds left stretched the Longhorns' lead again.

That didn't quite close the door on Creighton, which got two more 3-pointers from Scheierman, who had missed his first nine attempts. That forced Texas to finish it from the free-throw line behind Carr and Brock Cunningham. Cunningham's two free throws with 4 seconds left were his only points of the game.

Texas earned its second home win over a top 10 opponent in its new arena. The Longhorns beat thenNo. 2 Gonzaga on Nov. 16.

Hunter scored 15 points for Texas.

Ryan Kalkbrenner had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Creighton, and Ryan

Nembhard scored 17 points. NO. 8 CONNECTICUT 74, OKLAHOMA STATE 64>> Jordan Hawkins scored a career-high 26 points to lead the unbeaten Huskies (90) past the Cowboys (53) in Storrs, Conn. Adama Sanogo added 20 points and Andre Jackson scored 11 for the Huskies.

It was the smallest margin of victory for UConn this season. The Huskies' next closest was an 82-67 win over then-No. 18 Alabama last Friday at the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore.

Kalib Boone scored 15 points to lead the Cowboys. NO. 9 KANSAS 91, SETON HALL 65 >> Kevin McCullar Jr. returned from an injury to score 17 points and grab 10 rebounds, Jalen Wilson added 15 points and 13 boards, and the Jayhawks (81) rolled over the Pirates (44) in Lawrence, Kan. KJ Adams had 11 points, DaJuan Harris Jr. had 10 with seven assists, and Ernest Udeh Jr. also scored 10 for the Jayhawks, who now have more than a week off before visiting bitter rival Missouri for the first time in a decade on Dec. 10.

The Jayhawks romped past the Tigers 102-65 last year, when they resumed their series after a nineyear hiatus following Missouri's departure for the SEC. Kansas has not faced them on the road since losing on Feb. 4, 2012.

Kadary Richmond had 17 points, but also turned the ball over seven times for the Pirates (4-4), who were just 4 of 19 from the 3-point arc in losing their third straight game. Tyrese Samuel added with 16 points.

ARIZONA STATE 60, COLORADO 59 >> Desmond Cambridge Jr. hit a 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left and the Sun Devils (7-1, 1-0) rallied from a 15-point secondhalf deficit to beat the Buffaloes (5-3, 0-1) in a Pac-12 Conference opener in Boulder, Colo. The Sun Devils took their final possession with 12.7 seconds to play. DJ Horne received the ball underneath and passed to Cambridge, who hit nothing but net from the left side of the arc. Alonzo Gaffney, Desmond Cambridge Jr. and Devan Cambridge each made a 3-pointer during a 13-0 run as Arizona State took its first lead since early in the first half, 57-56, with 2:34 to play. Jalen Gabbidon answered for Colorado with a three-point play for a 5957 lead with 2:03 left. Devan Cambridge scored 18 points to lead Arizona State. OREGON STATE 66. WASHINGTON 65 >> Dzmitry Ryuny had 14 points and Dexter Akanno 13 for the Beavers (4-4) in Corvallis, Ore. The Huskies fell to 6-2.
