The Peninsula baseball team started the season with nine consecutive wins.

Then came a sevengame losing streak as the Panthers began Bay League play. They lost their first three league games — two to Mira Costa and a 16-inning loss to Santa Monica.

Wednesday, Peninsula won its third consecutive Bay League game, defeating Redondo 2-1.

The win left the Panthers 3-3 in league.

Peninsula and Redondo will meet again today at Peninsula.

“The turnaround for us, ultimately, came down to us deciding to put our foot down,” Peninsula coach Nick Green said. “We had that 7-8 game slide after starting off 9-0 and it wears on you.

“We had to change our mindset. Pitching has been good for us and the bats have come around. If you have a chance to hit, you can score runs.”

The Panthers pushed across two runs in the fourth Wednesday against Redondo pitcher Cole Stokes.

“As a competitor, you want to face the best,” Green said of Stokes. “He pitched great. He only allowed two hits, struck out seven, but we found a way to get a couple of guys on and in.”

The Panthers were led on the mound by Yuvan Anthony, who went 5 2/3 innings and got the win, and Jet Lim, who pitched 1 1/3 innings and got the save.

After today's game against Redondo, Peninsula has a make-up game against Santa Monica on Saturday and two games next week against Palos

Verdes.

The two teams meet again Friday at Bishop Montgomery.

The Knights are the No. 1-ranked team in this week's CIF-Southern Section Division 5 poll.

RIZZO AND FORMAN HAVE BEEN A DOMINANT DUO >> Palos Verdes' baseball team has taken over first place in the Bay League thanks to the pitching of Garren Rizzo and Alex Forman.

In a 7-2 win over Mira Costa last week, Forman allowed two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Rizzo followed him with a 3-1 win in which he allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
