Bruins score 4 in 2nd, beat the Devils

-

David Pastrnak scored two of Boston's four secondperiod goals, Kevin Shattenkirk recorded his 100th and 101st career goals and the host Boston Bruins defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-2 on Saturday night.

Jake DeBrusk also had a goal during the secondperiod scoring burst and Linus Ullmark stopped 31 shots for Boston, which posted its second straight win after a four-game losing streak.

Luke Hughes and Nico Hischier scored for the Devils, who had their threegame winning streak stopped. Vitek Vanecek made 27 saves and Tyler Toffoli had two assists.

PREDATORS 3, CAPITALS 2 (SO) » Roman Josi scored a franchise record-tying goal, Yaroslav Askarov made 26 saves in regulation and overtime for his first NHL win, and visiting Nashville beat Washington in a shootout to snap a three-game skid. Josi's first-period goal tied Shea Weber for the most by a Predators defenseman. It was his 166th.

Washington's Alexander Ovechkin scored his 829th goal, which puts him 65 back of Wayne Gretzky's career record.

PENGUINS 4, BLUES 2 » Evgeni Malkin had a goal and an assist, helping host Pittsburgh top St. Louis. Malkin also set up Drew O'Connor's fourth of the year, and Sidney Crosby's 20th of the season was an empty-netter. Crosby is one point from tying Joe Thornton for 12th place on the NHL's career points list.

RANGERS 5, LIGHTNING 1 » Artemi Panarin scored three goals, Igor Shesterkin made 34 saves on his 28th birthday, and the NHLleading New York Rangers beat host Tampa Bay. Vincent Trocheck had a goal and three assists, and Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers. Mika Zibanejad had an assist for a careerhigh 10-game point streak. The Rangers (25-9-1), with 51 points, are the first team to reach 50 points this season.

JETS 4, WILD 2 » Nino Niederreiter scored two goals and host Winnipeg beat Minnesoa. Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Alex Iafallo also scored for the Jets, who are to 9-1-2 in their past 12 games. Matt Boldy and Ryan Hartman scored for the Wild.

The Kings concluded the 2023 calendar year the same way they ended each of their past two postseasons — with a loss to the Edmonton Oil- ers, this time 3-2 in a shoot- out at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday night.

Adrian Kempe scored a goal and added a primary assist on Kevin Fiala's tally. Cam Talbot stopped 24 shots.

Connor McDavid notched a stunning goal for his 13th of the season and set up Leon Draisaitl's marker. Derek Ryan netted the shootout winner. Stuart Skinner made 26 saves to give him the most wins of any NHL goalie since Nov. 7, while Edmonton pushed its win streak to four games.

Each of the first four shooters converted on their shootout attempts: Trevor Moore and Kempe for the Kings as well as Edmonton's McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. It was the decidedly lower-profile Ryan playing the villain, capping the comeback with a shootout winner.

In overtime, Anze Kopitar, Moore and Edmonton's Zach Hyman all had forays to the netfront, and Phillip Danault came up with an enormous clear during a seemingly endless shift for McDavid.

The final third of regulation took a decidedly tactical posture, with the Kings killing the period's only penalty, assessed to Fiala, and both teams playing a structured stanza that set up an overtime session.

The first 40 minutes were a tale of two periods, with the Oilers taking control of the middle frame and leaving the teams deadlocked at the second intermission.

Edmonton struck on the power play at the 5:35 mark and again nearly 10 minutes later, with their two-headed
