Kelly Clarkson says never wanted to marry her ex

Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson

If Kelly Clarkson had her druthers, she never would have married Brandon Blackstock. The multiple Grammy and Daytime Emmy Award winner has opened about her ill-fated marriage to her former husbandmanager, from whom she finalized her divorce in 2022. The “American Idol” alum first filed for divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage.

“I never wanted to get married the first time,” she told People in an interview published this week. “(Brandon) had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I've never been that person. Because I've been through a couple divorces in my family, I just don't like to put any weight on it.”

When asked if she'd consider getting remarried, she replied: “It can happen; it doesn't have to happen. For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they're out of my house.” The exes share two young children, ages 9 and 7.

As far as her future love life is concerned, Clarkson isn't ruling out romance again, but it will be on her terms.

“I told a friend (that a potential partner) would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me,” she shared.

Joe Bonsall retires from the Oak Ridge Boys

Joe Bonsall is leaving the legendary singing group the Oak Ridge Boys due to a health issue. The singer, 75, shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Many of you know I have been battling a slow onset (over 4 years now) of a neuromuscular disorder,” he wrote. “I am now to a point that walking is impossible so I have basically retired from the road. It has just gotten too difficult.” Bonsall noted that “it has been a great 50 years and I am thankful to all the Oak Ridge Boys band crew and staff for the constant love and support shown to me through it all.” Bonsall “I will never forget and for those of you who have been constantly holding me up in prayer I thank you and ask for you to keep on praying,” he added. Bonsall explained that a singer named Ben James is singing in the group in his stead, writing that “his sound is different than mine but he brings a ton of talent to the table!” “The @oakridgeboys will finish the Farewell Tour without me but rest assured I am good with all of it!” he concluded.

The country and gospel quartet, originally founded in 1943 out of Tennessee, is known for songs including “Elvira” and “American Made.” Bonsall joined the group in 1973.
