Coming off of two consecutive losses to end the Holiday Classic in San Diego, the Wiseburn Da Vinci boys basketball team wanted to get things turned around heading into a busy next week.

Led by Ahmose Daniels' double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), 12 points from Jameson Johnson and 10 from Canaan Rodriguez, the Wolves were able to pull away from Narbonne for a 62-47 win Saturday at the Real Run Winter Classic at Lynwood High.

“It's a good win,” Daniels said. “It's good momentum. I think we came out, played well, shot the ball better. We were in the gym working and it showed today.”

Narbonne (7-8) led 16-8 in the first quarter. Wiseburn (14-4) cut the deficit to three at 19-16 on a 3-pointer by Alonzo Gonzalez to end the opening quarter.

In the second, the Wolves took their first lead at 28-26 on a 3-pointer by Kyanh Glover. The Wolves took a 32-26 lead into halftime after two free throws on an intentional foul and a basket from Daniels.

Wiseburn stretched its lead to 47-35 early in the fourth quarter before Narbonne got back within six at 50-44 on a 3-pointer by Ehren Gowdy.

Max Choi's 3-pointer later in the fourth made it 55-47, but that was as close as Narbonne got.

“After the two tough losses at the end of the San Diego tournament against good teams, this was a good opportunity after a week of practice to prove that we're a solid team,” Wiseburn coach Jeff Amaral said.

Next week, Wiseburn will return to Pioneer League play with a threegame week: Monday at Lawndale, Wednesday at North Torrance and Friday at home against El Segundo.

“Any time you have to play three league games in a week, it's going to be challenging,” Amaral said. “All three teams pose different challenges for us.”

Choi and Troy Aguilar scored 13 points apiece for the Gauchos, who will return to Marine League play Wednesday at home against Gardena.
