Palos Verdes girls draw the top seed in Division 1

After spending several weeks on the CIF Southern Section Open Division watch list, both the Palos Verdes and Redondo girls soccer teams will be in the Division 1 field.

The Sea Kings (15-3-1) are the top seed in the division and Redondo (162-1) is the third seed. The teams finished second and third, respective­ly, in the Bay League.

PV will host Aliso Niguel in the first round Thursday. Unlike the new Open Division, all of the rounds in Division 1-7 will be single-eliminatio­n.

Pioneer League champion Torrance (15-2-3) will open at home against Bishop Amat. Redondo will be on the road against Coastal Canyon champion Moorpark.

West Torrance (11-8-2) will also be on the road, facing Newport Harbor.

In Division 2, South Torrance (10-7-3) will open on the road against Pasadena Poly. El Segundo (8-9-2) will also be on the road at Woodbridge.

In Division 5, Lennox Academy (12-2-2) will be on the road against Riverside Prep, Chadwick (96-1) will be home against Schurr and Leuzinger (97-3) will be home against Chino.

In Division 7, Environmen­tal Charter (12-3) will open against the wildcard winner between Redlands Advent and Cal Military, Mary Star (106-1) will host the wildcard winner between Oxford Academy and St. Paul and second-seeded Animo Leadership (10-01) will host the wild-card winner between Vistamar and de Toledo.

Wild-card games in Division 7 will be played Tuesday. Hawthorne hosts CAMS in another wildcard game.

Boys

Last season, Animo Leadership advanced to the CIF-SS Division 5 finals.

This season, the Aztec Eagles (19-1-1, 8-0) won the Mulholland League and are the top seed in the Division 3 playoffs.

Animo will open the playoffs Wednesday against either South Pasadena or Chaminade.

El Segundo (13-4-3) is also in the Division 3 bracket. The Eagles will host El Rancho.

West Torrance (6-101) is in a Division 3 wildcard game. The Warriors will visit Warren on Monday.

In Division 1, South Torrance (16-0-4) is the second seed. The Spartans spent the majority of the season on the Open Division watch list.

Pioneer League title, will host San Juan Hills in Wednesday's first round.

Palos Verdes (10-9-2) is also in the Division 1 field. The Sea Kings will visits Los Alamitos.

Redondo (12-7-1) finished third in the Bay League will be on the road against Montebello.

Peninsula (10-10-2) receives an at-large berth into the Division 4 playoffs. The Panthers will be on the road at Coachella Valley. Wiseburn Da Vinci (13-8-2) will also be on the road, visiting Santa Paula.

In Division 5, Leuzinger (11-6-2) will be home against Notre Dame.

Chadwick (9-5-1) hosts Magnolia in a Division 6 first-round game. Lennox Academy (13-4-1) is on the road at Northwood.

Hawthorne MSA (11-31) will await the winner of the wild-card game between Beacon Hill and St. Bonaventur­e.

Environmen­tal Charter (8-2-3) faces the winner of the wild-card game between Edgewood and Magnolia Science.
