Kingsbury turns down offer from Raiders

Former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury isn't going to Las Vegas to become the Raiders offensive coordinato­r after all.

Kingsbury, who spent this past season at USC as an offensive analyst, had agreed to join new coach Antonio Pierce's staff on Thursday, but he couldn't reach a deal with the Raiders, so he told the team he's pursuing other options, the person said, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because the discussion­s were to remain private.

Now the Raiders have to decide where to go from here.

Another option is UCLA coach Chip Kelly, who according to NFL.com interviewe­d twice with the Raiders before they turned their attention to Kingsbury.

• The Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to hire Kentucky assistant coach Liam Coen to be their offensive coordinato­r, the AP reported.

O'Keefe sets marathon mark, earns Paris spot

Fiona O'Keeffe smashed the women's U.S. Olympic marathon trials record in her debut at the distance in Orlando, Fla. to secure her spot in the Paris Games.

O'Keeffe finished in a time 2 hours, 22 minutes, 10 seconds to break the American marathon trials mark of 2:25:38 set by Shalane Flanagan in 2012 in Houston. Emily Sisson, the U.S. marathon record holder, was second and Dakotah Lindwurm surged into third to make Team USA for Paris.

On the men's side, training partners and good friends Conner Mantz and Clayton Young finished 1-2 to qualify for Paris.

Usyk-Fury title fight is reschedule­d

The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury for the undisputed world heavyweigh­t title has been reschedule­d to May 18 in Saudi Arabia.

Queensberr­y Promotions made the announceme­nt on X, a day after postponing the fight because Fury suffered a serious cut above his right eye in sparring in Riyadh.

Mexican diver wins gold medal at worlds

Osmar Olvera Ibarra gave Mexico its second diving gold medal in the history of the World Aquatics Championsh­ips, winning the men's 1-meter springboar­d in Doha, Qatar.

Olvera became the first diver from a country other than China to claim the top spot in the event since Alexandre Despatie of Canada in 2005.

Paolo Espinosa is the only other Mexican diving world champion, capturing gold on the 10-meter platform at Rome in 2009.

Olvera, 19, was a silver medalist on both 1- and 3-meter springboar­d at last summer's world championsh­ips in Fukuoka, Japan. Now, he's got some gold medal momentum with the Paris Olympics just five months away.

Olvera led the morning preliminar­ies and cruised through the final, posting a score of 431.75 points over six dives. The silver went to Li Shixin of Australia at 395.70, while Ross Haslam of Britain took the bronze in 393.10.

China, which has dominated diving at both the Olympics and world championsh­ips, claimed its first gold in Doha when Huang Jianjie, 13, and Zhang Jiaqi won the mixed 10-meter synchroniz­ed platform.

With its focus firmly on Paris, China sent a scaledback team to Doha, giving other nations a chance to shine.

In other finals on Day 2 of the first world championsh­ips held in the Middle East, Sharon van Rouwendaal of the Netherland­s pulled off a thrilling victory in the women's 10-kilometer race and Evangelia Platanioti of Greece took artistic swimming gold in women's solo technical.

Many top athletes are skipping Doha, which is hosting the worlds a year behind schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first time the world championsh­ips have been held in the same calendar year as the Summer Games.

Kagiyama leads 1-2 finish for Japan

Beijing Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama produced a near flawless free skate to lead a 1-2 finish for Japan at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championsh­ips in Shanghai, China.

First after the short program, Kagiyama landed two quadruple jumps and four triple jumps on his way to scoring 200.76 points in the free skate for a total of 307.58.

Shun Sato was a distant second with 274.59 points while South Korea's Junhwan Cha was third with 272.95.

Kagiyama is making a comeback after missing the past season due to injury.

In pairs, Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Canada held on the to their lead from the short program to win the gold medal.

The Canadians scored 129.32 points for a total of 198.80, comfortabl­y ahead of world champions Rika Miura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan who were second with 190.77.

Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea of the United States completed a routine that featured a triple twist and a side-by-side triple salchow en route to a personal-best 126.56 to grab the bronze with 187.28 points.

The 2023 Four Continents bronze medalist Mone Chiba of Japan won the women's gold medal on Friday to capture her first ISU championsh­ip title.

Chiba, 18. landed a triple flip-triple toe combinatio­n and added five more triple jumps for a personal-best free skate score of 143.88 points and a total of 214.98.

South Korea's Chaeyeon Kim earned the silver medal with 204.68 points while Rinka Watanabe, also of Japan, took bronze with 202.17 points.
