No. 4 Houston falls to eighth-ranked Kansas, Dickinson

Hunter Dickinson had 20 points to lead four Jayhawks in double figures as No. 8 Kansas beat visiting No. 4 Houston 78-65 on Saturday.

Kansas (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) got 17 points each from Kevin McCullar and Johnny Furphy.

The Cougars had not allowed more than 72 points in a game all season.

Houston (19-3, 6-3) was led by L.J. Cryer with 24 points.

The Cougars came into the game with the nation's best scoring defense at 52.9 points per game allowed. The Jayhawks hit 53 points with 14:17 left in the second half on a layup by Dickinson.

Kansas extended its 15-point halftime lead to 20 in the second half. Houston cut the lead to 10 at at 68-58 but could not get closer.

The Jayhawks hit nine of their first 10 shots, helping them to a 23-11 lead. The Cougars, who lead the nation in field goal defense (35.5%) allowed Kansas to shoot 68% (17 of 25) in the first half.

The Cougars had not allowed more than 30 points in a first half all season. The Jayhawks led 43-28 at halftime.

NO. 3 NORTH CAROLINA 93, NO. 7 DUKE 84 » Armando Bacot had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Harrison Ingram added 21 points, 13 rebounds and four steals as the host Tar Heels beat the rival Blue Devils.

ACC scoring leader RJ Davis tallied 17 points despite 5-of-14 shooting as UNC (18-4, 10-1 ACC) moved to the top of the conference standings.

Freshman Jared McCain had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils (16-5, 7-3). Kyle Filipowski added 22 points.

NO. 5 TENNESSEE 103, NO. 10 KENTUCKY 92 » Josiah-Jordan James and Zakai Zeigler each scored 26 points, including 17 by James after halftime, and the Volunteers (16-5, 6-2 SEC) won on the road.

Rob Dillingham had 35 points with six 3-pointers off the bench before fouling out late for Kentucky (15-5, 5-4), which dropped its second in a row and third in four games.

Castle had a season-best 21 and the Huskies pulled away for the victory at Madison Square Garden.

Tristen Newton added 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as defending national champion UConn (20-2, 10-1 Big East) won its 10th straight game.

The winning streak began Dec. 23 with a 69-65 home win over St. John's.

Daniss Jenkins scored 19 for the Red Storm (139, 5-6), who have dropped five of six after opening 4-1 in conference play during their first season under Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino. Leading scorer Joel Soriano was held to six points on 2-of-6 shooting. NO. 9 MARQUETTE 91, GEORGETOWN 57 » Kam Jones scored 31 points, Tyler Kolek had 17 points and eight assists and the visiting Golden Eagles won their sixth in a row.

Marquette (17-5, 8-3 Big East) forced 19 turnovers and outscored the Hoyas 35-5 in points off turnovers.

Georgetown (8-13, 1-9) lost its sixth straight game. SAN DIEGO ST. 81, NO. 17 UTAH ST. 67 » Jaedon LeDee had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Aztecs to a home win against Great Osobor and the Aggies.

LeDee scored nine points in the second half of the showdown between the top two scorers and rebounders in the league. Osobor had 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Aztecs (17-5, 6-3 Mountain West) beat the Aggies (19-3, 7-2) for the fifth straight time.

Jay Pal scored 16 for SDSU, which lost three of its previous five games.

Women

NO. 3 IOWA 93, MARYLAND 85 » Caitlin Clark had 38 points, 12 assists and six rebounds, and the visiting Hawkeyes outlasted the Terrapins.

Iowa (21-2, 10-1 Big Ten) won at Maryland for the first time since December 1992, when the Terps were in the ACC.

Clark now needs 66 points to pass Kelsey Plum atop the NCAA career scoring list for women's basketball. Clark has 3,462 points and is averaging 32.4 points a game this season. She's on pace to break Plum's mark against Michigan on Feb. 15.

Jakia Brown-Turner led the Terps (12-10, 4-7) with 25 points.
