Bishop Montgomery girls, San Pedro boys seeded No. 1
The Bishop Montgomery girls basketball team and the San Pedro boys basketball team received No. 1 seeds in their respective divisions for the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs.
The Knights, who competed in the CIF-Southern Section Open Division, are the top seed in Division I. They have a firstround bye and will host the winner of SantiagoWestchester Thursday in the second round at 7 p.m.
The Comets, who lost in the City Section Open Division final, are the No. 9 seed.
In Division III of the girls regional, Palos Verdes, the CIF-SS Division 4A champion, will be on the road Tuesday against No. 3 Palisades.
Torrance, a Division 3A semifinalist, is the 11th seed and will start on the road against No. 6 Rancho Bernardo.
Two City Section champions, Gardena (Division IV ) and Banning (Division III), are in Division V for the girls regional. The Panthers are the No. 9 seed and will open on the road at No. 8 La Mirada. The Pilots are the seventh seed and will host No. 10 St. Pius X-St. Matthias.
Boys basketball
San Pedro's boys basketball team, which lost in the City Section Division I final, is the top seed in the Division V regional. The Pirates will host No. 16 Notre Dame of Riverside Tuesday.
Carson, the City Section's Division III champion, is the 10th seed in Division V. The Colts will be at No. 7 Buckley in the first round Tuesday.
El Segundo and Westchester are in Division IV. The Eagles are the 15th seed and will be at No. 2 Cleveland in the opening round. The Comets are the fifth seed and will host No. 12 Castaic.
Serra is 15th seed in Division III. The Cavaliers will be on the road at No. 2 Thousand Oaks.
Redondo and Rolling Hills Prep are in Division I. The Sea Hawks are the No. 13 seed and will be on the road against No. 4 Montgomery. RHP is the 15th seed and will be at No. 2 JSerra.
The second round is Thursday, followed by the regional semifinals Saturday. The regional finals are March 5.
