He doesn’t serve Coloradans
When Donald Trump was elected president, many of us believed that his propensity to act recklessly would be softened by the Republicans who surrounded him. Surely, we thought, we can count on other elected Republicans to help the president stay inside the political guardrails.
What we discovered, however, is that President Trump had another idea completely: He took Republicans with him into the wasteland where we currently find ourselves.
U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner has branded himself a bipartisan political leader who wants the best for Colorado and for our nation. His Twitter is full of announcements and proclamations that celebrate his dedication to our beautiful state.
Yet Sen. Gardner’s words contrast with his committed and unchallenged support of President Trump and the horrifying failures that have become a regular occurrence from Trump’s presidency.
In the Sept. 3 Atlantic article, “Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers,’” Jeffrey Goldberg accused the president of making comments that disparaged veterans and service members on several occasions, an accusation both disheartening and infuriating. After the article was published, I hoped we would hear the senator’s strong denunciation of the president’s ideas about our brave veterans and service members. We did finally hear from the senator when he appeared on Fox News, but he refused to say anything negative about Trump’s comments.
I am the wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter of brave men who served admirably and honorably. My husband was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the war. The obvious fact that President Trump cares so little for our troops is truly devastating. Cory Gardner’s refusal to aggressively denounce the president and his dishonorable opinions is equally egregious. Sen. Gardner does not care about Colorado and the state’s brave veterans.
Cory Gardner is President Trump’s lackey before he is our senator.
