He’s consolidating his power

Daily Camera (Boulder) - - Business -

President Donald Trump’s plan for reelection and beyond is clear. He is intentionally fomenting violence on the streets from both sides of the political spectrum, and he will continue to do so until there is no option to address it other than martial law-like police/militar y presence on the streets.

He already has the executive branch of government, most importantly the Justice Depar tment and Depar tment of Homeland Security, under his control.

If he is reelected, the courts also will be increasingly under his control. Congress is so partisan, it’s dysfunctional and increasingly irrelevant.

Given four more years as president, Trump will continue the militarization of normal society under the guise of social order. His control of the militar y will be backed by his control of the executive and judicial branches.

He will have no incentive to continue the countr y’s tradition of free and fair elections. On the contrar y, he will have incentive (power and attention) to remain in power until he steps down in favor of one of his children or followers. Our democracy will be dead, we will be living in a dictatorship, and it will be too late to turn it around.

All this is why I believe that, for our countr y’s ver y future, we must elect Joe Biden in this election. This election is no longer about traditional Democrat/ Republican choices; it’s about the future of our democracy. That’s why so many moderate Republicans have said they will be voting for Biden, something they would normally not consider.

The danger is too impor tant to stay silent. Just voting isn’t enough. What more can each of us do?
