Patriots still having coronavirus issues

ENGLEWOOD — Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday it is business as usual for his team as it continues preparing for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

New England has had three recent positive COVID-19 tests, including QB Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and did not practice Wednesday and held all football activities virtually.

They plan to do the same today.

Newton’s positive test forced the Patriots’ game at Kansas City to be moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday night (the Chiefs won 26-10).

The Broncos have not had a positive COVID-19 test since fullback/tight end Andrew Beck on July 30.

Fangio said he hasn’t been told “anything” about the Broncos-patriots game being postponed.

“We’re just confident here that the league, along with the players’ union, will handle everything correctly,” he said. “But nothing has been done or said other than the plan is normal.”

Fangio addressed the situations involving New England and Tennessee during Wednesday morning’s team meeting.

“I’m sure everything will be safe for everyone involved — totally confident,” said Fangio, who added that no Broncos player has approached him about being concerned about traveling to New England.

Said quarterback Brett Rypien: “I don’t think there’s any concern on our end. We trust the league will make the right decision. Right now, we have our focus on the game plan and getting ready for the game and we’re preparing as if we’re going to play on Sunday.”

Injury update

Receiver KJ Hamler (hamstring) has been ruled for out Sunday, and Fangio said tight end Noah Fant (ankle) is a “long shot” to be available.

Neither player practiced Wednesday.
