Mead advances into quarterfinals
Mavericks’ trio drives in three runs apiece
The Mead softball team was a day later, but did not come up short against the competition as the Mavericks were able to dispatch
Palisade by an 11-0 score in a Wednesday Class 4A first round playoff game at Mead High.
Facing a tough end of the regular season in which it slipped from the top of the Northern Colorado Athletic Conference standings and into second place, the Mavericks managed to get back on a winning track with authority by beating the Bulldogs in every facet of the game.
Veronica Elsis had three hits and three RBIS; Delaney Wilson and Katelyn Wiescamp also drove in three apiece; and Josylnn Veltien and Claire Adams combined for five innings with just a walk and a hit allowed between them. The pair stuck out six Palisade batters.
Now 15-2, Mead will host either Riverdale Ridge or Pueblo South in today’s quarterfinal round.
Saturday’s semifinals and championship games for all classifications are scheduled to be played at Aurora Sports Park.
