Habitat isn’t suitable for wolves
Iam a strong environmental activist and I oppose wolf reintroduction (Proposition 114) for many reasons. The wolf has always been a symbol for the more macho actors. People never talk about badger or wolverine protections. The wolf is their alpha and that is a lousy reason to vote for 114.
Years ago, the division of wildlife reintroduced the lynx to Colorado. The division took lynxes from Canada and put them in an area without snowshoe hare, their main diet. They starved to death.
In an ideal world, of course, we would have wolves in Colorado. In an ideal world, they would have adequate habitat. Now they will have acres of burned forests, parks that are more about industrial tourism than preservation, and more mega-houses climbing up the hillsides.
If you want to add the wolf, you need to subtract the human invasion into their territory.
As we see and experience firsthand the criminal tragedy of the climate crisis, it is not the time to spend our limited funds on Amendment 114. What makes sense is keeping the gray wolf listed as an endangered species and allowing the wolves to move into Colorado (as some are) if the real life conditions on the ground permit. Vote “no” on 114.
