A look at the rest of the Bocopreps all-region girls cross country team,

- By Brad Cochi

The weather is getting colder, the postseason is drawing nearer and the football action in Colorado is heating up. five local teams — Broomfield, Fairview, Holy Family, Legacy and Skyline — remain unbeaten. Local action across the Bocopreps.com area also included some incredible statistical performances, overtime thrillers and bounce-back victories. Despite some doubt, plenty of last-minute rescheduling and a whole bunch of new challenges to overcome, the football season is still alive. here is a game-by-game look at what’s in store for local teams in Week 4.

Class 5A

Legacy vs. Fairview Details: At Recht Field on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Legacy Lightning (3-0) is rolling and off to its best start in over a decade but things are about to get a lot tougher this week against a Fairview (3-0) squad that is ranked sixth in the latest CHSAANOW.COM poll. The Knights defense has allowed just seven total points in three games this fall and has eight interceptions, led by Jay Barry’s three. Legacy’s offense will likely do most of its work with a ground game that features junior Braelon Tate, who leads the team with 393 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns.

Class 4A

Monarch vs. Loveland Details: At Ray Patterson Field on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Outlook: Coach Phil Bravo’s Monarch Coyotes (1-2) picked up their first win of the season last week with a 51-13 drubbing of Greeley Central. But beating No. 5 Loveland (3-0) poses an entirely different challenge, which will test the Coyotes’ defense and its ability to contain dynamic two-way threat Zack Rakowsky. Junior running back Cole Carlucci has over 400 rushing yards in three games and has done a great job of pacing the Coyotes offense, which could be getting feature running back Keiran Singh back from injury soon.

Skyline vs. Greeley Central Details: At Greeley Central on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Ranked No. 10 in Class 4A, it’s going to be hard for Skyline (3-0) to match the energy of last week’s record-threatening victory against Longmont when the Falcons travel to face winless Greeley Central. Skyline hasn’t lost to Greeley Central since 2015 and has scored at least 33 points in each of the past four meetings between the two teams. But then again, energy is rarely an issue for two-way Skyline senior Grayden Bridwell, who racked up a ridiculous 384 rushing yards in Week 3 and leads the state in rushing.

Heritage vs. Broomfield Details: At Broomfield on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Head coach Blair Hubbard must be pleased with how his sixth-ranked Eagles (3-0) appear to be getting better each week. Winless Heritage (0-3) stands between Broomfield and a 4-0 record but the Heritage Eagles shouldn’t be taken too lightly, as they feature a pair of Division-i tight ends in Terrance Ferguson (Oregon) and Erik Olsen (Colorado) who are big-play threats at all times. The Broomfield offense buoyed by the emergence of sophomore Cole Lacrue and the defense anchored by Hall Edmonds should be ready for the challenge.

Erie vs. Brighton

Details: At Brighton on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Last week’s double-overtime loss to Windsor was Erie’s first of the season and the Tigers (2-1) will be hungry to get back on track this Friday. Junior quarterback Alex Austin got his first chance to start last week after freshman quarterback Blake Barnett, who impressed in the Tigers’ opener, was injured in Week 2. Regardless of who is under center for the Tigers against Brighton (2-1), their offense will once again lean on running back Mason Veve, who has 595 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns already in 2020.

Longmont vs. Greeley West Details: At Everly-montgomery Field on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Trojans (1-2) are coming off a 51-38 loss to Skyline in which the teams’ 1,282 combined yards of total offense went down as the ninth-most in Colorado prep football history. Longmont receiver Caleb Johnson also caught 18 passes from quarterback Keegan Patterson, who leads the state with 1,191 passing yards, which is fourth-most ever in a single game. All of Longmont’s games have been close and while it may not feel like they’re 1-2, the Trojans have a good chance to get back to .500 against a winless Greeley West squad on Friday.

Silver Creek vs. Windsor Details: At Windsor on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Silver Creek has played a brutal schedule so far and is still looking for its first win. That elusive victory won’t come easy against an unbeaten Windsor squad that has proven itself with some impressive performances already in 2020. When the teams do battle, Silver Creek senior Sovann Sam will enter the game as the Raptors’ rushing leader with 158 yards and quarterback Logan Veeder will come in with 576 yards on 44-for-86 passing.

Class 3A

Frederick vs. Mountain View Details: At Ray Patterson Field on Thursday at 7 p.m. Outlook: Frederick (1-2) won its first game of the 2020 campaign last week. In the victory, senior Tyler Weston ran for 124 yards while other ball carriers like Parker Ayres (97 yards) and Cruz Zamudio (87 yards) helped the Warriors offense rack up a total of 353 yards on the ground. Mountain View (1-2) has a run-heavy attack of its own, so this week’s game will likely be determined by a battle in the trenches.

Holy Family vs. Mitchell Details: At Holy Family on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: No. 6 Holy Family is 3-0 so far this season. But that win total is the same as the Tigers’ first three opponents have combined. It doesn’t appear things will get any tougher for Holy Family this week against a Mitchell (0-2) team that lost 64-0 to Durango on Oct. 17 and has allowed 112 points to its first two opponents. So far in 2020, Tigers quarterback Michael White has completed 24 of 47 pass attempts for 478 yards and senior Trevin Johnson leads Holy Family with 464 rushing yards.

Niwot vs. Lewis-palmer

Details: At Erie on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Niwot (0-3) is off to a rough start in 2020 but the Cougars might be looking at this week as an opportunity to pick up their first win since Lewis-palmer hasn’t exactly been on fire either. Last week, Niwot’s Craig Wright caught eight passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, so the Cougars will be looking for him to stay open for quarterback Ayden Bartko against the Rangers this Friday

Class 1A

Prospect Ridge vs. Highland Details: At Highland on Friday at 7 p.m.

Outlook: Prospect Ridge (1-2) has lost its last two and the Miners face another tough opponent in No. 10 Highland (1-2) this week. Expect to see more of senior quarterback Dylan Meredith, who has accounted for 63 percent of the Miners’ total offense in 2020 after finishing with 170 yards of total offense in the team’s 22-20 overtime loss to Platte Canyon last week.
