For the second straight match against her former team, Colorado’s Dani Hansen was relentless in goal for the Buffaloes against Washington on Sunday afternoon.

But with space opening up on the field as Colorado tried to generate more offense, the Huskies were able to pluck a couple of goals on their home field to take a 2-1 win in Seattle. It was the Buffs’ first loss of the 2021 campaign.

James tied the game at 1-1 with a late first-half marker, but the Huskies were able to score in the 86th minute to steal the victor y.

“It’s tough for both teams to play basically back-to-back,” head coach Danny Sanchez explained. “I was pleased with how we competed today. I thought we did a much better job of competing with the ball. There still wasn’t enough going forward for us. We’re not quite clicking on the attack yet. When you defend for that long, eventually the dam is going to break.”

Washington (3-0-1, 0-0-1 Pac-12) scored the first goal of the season against the Buffs in the 18th minute. The Huskies controlled the pace of play for nearly the first half, putting six shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

After James scored, Colorado (3-1-1, 0-0-1 Pac-12) had its opportunities to break the tie in the second half but could not get anything on target.

Colorado has another pair of road games this weekend. On Friday, the Buffs will be in Berkeley to face off against California; they’ll venture on to Stanford on Sunday.
