County seeking residents to join its commuter bikeway committee

- By Kelsey Hammon Staff Writer

Boulder County is searching for residents to be part of a 10-person committee that will guide planning for the new Colo. 119 commuter bikeway. The path is one element of a roughly $253.3 million project to upgrade the highway.

A county news release said that the Boulder County’s Community Planning & Permitting Department invites people to fill out an application to be part of the State Highway 119 Community Advisory Committee. The county is searching for people who live or work near the Colo. 119 corridor and use the highway regularly, as well as people of color, people with mobility challenges, people of all ages and abilities, people who rely upon transit, and people who are interested in biking but are uncomfortable biking on roads.

The committee’s feedback will help to achieve two goals, the release said. Those goals are to optimize regional connectivity and mobility between and within Boulder and Longmont through multimodal improvements, and develop a bikeway that is safe, direct, accessible, and comfortable with seamless connections to transit, neighborhoods, businesses, and existing paths. Construction on the highway upgrades are slated for 2022 or 2023.

The application deadline is Sept. 7. To see a full description of available committee seats, people can visit the online application at bit.ly/3zeuvyh.

The first meeting is planned for mid to late September. The committee will meet for six to eight meetings over the next 12 to 18 months.

Participants will receive a stipend in the form of gift cards, mileage, or another form of compensation.
