Norfolk State University is one of five historically Black colleges and universities selected to receive scholarship funding from Beyonce and Jay-z’s philanthropic initiatives in partnership with Tiffany & Co.

The About Love Scholarship is giving $2 million in funding for incoming and current students pursuing degrees in creative fields, history and communications. Students must qualify for financial aid to be eligible.

In an email statement to The Virginian-pilot, NSU president Javaune AdamsGaston said that the university is honored to be among the scholarship program’s inaugural recipients.

“The resources will help to close financial gaps for some of our students and allow them to finish their degree programs,” AdamsGaston said. “In addition, the About Love Scholarship will help foster the endless creativity of our students, help them pursue their dreams, and make positive contributions to society. We thank these agencies for their generosity and for being an ally in our mission to create the next generation of thought leaders.”

The money comes from Tiffany & Co., Beyonce’s BEYGOOD and Jay-z’s Shawn Carter Foundation.

Norfolk State students can apply starting Friday. The application closes at 11:59 p.m.sept. 26.

The award sizes will range per student based on financial need, according to a news release from Tiffany & Co.

Lincoln University, Bennett College in North Carolina, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Central State University are the other HBCUS selected for the funding.
