Mead 50, Disc. Canyon 7 At Castle Rock: Two weeks into the season, Mead football is proving time and again why it deserves the No. 3 ranking that CHSAANOW.COM bestowed it in Class 3A.

On Thursday night against Discovery Canyon, the Mavericks put the beatdown on 3A’s sixth-ranked Thunder with a 50-7 final.

“I think it all starts off with our offensive line,” head coach Jason Klatt said. “It looked really good tonight. We kind of controlled the line of scrimmage up front and that was the key, then we had a number of backs do a really good job running the football and Corby (Tecu) had a really good game. They all did. Eli Sena had a really good game, Sean Medlock, Evan Morris all ran the ball really good.”

The running backs took over the offense as senior Tecu (three touchdowns), Medlock, Sena, junior Danny Brewington and Morris played a part in at least a handful of those scores as senior QB Gavin Garrettson threw at least one. Sophomore Jordan Lohr even added a field goal.

With that kind of production, the Thunder didn’t stand a chance.

“I think for us, we’re still trying to learn who we are as a team. Every single game, we’re just trying to put our best effort out on the field and I still think we’re not even close to the team we can be,” Tecu said. “I think for us, the sky’s the limit. We’re learning every week and we’re getting better every single week.”
