Texas A&M keys to victory

Pressure the freshman: Against Northern Colorado, Lewis was under pressure, as he was sacked twice and four of his 15 passes were

“hurried throws.” Against A&M, Lewis is likely to be under much more pressure. The Aggies racked up five sacks in the opener and held senior, three-year starting QB Dustin Crum to 12-for-26 for 89 yards and two interceptions.

Get the ball to the playmakers: Running backs Devon Achane and Isaiah Spiller and receiver Ainias Smith combined to handle the ball on 42 of the Aggies’ 76 offensive snaps last week. They also combined for 377 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

Avoid mistakes: On paper, this should be a win for A&M, as it has the edge in talent and depth. Turnovers, penalties and general mistakes can be equalizers, however. The Aggies got away with four turnovers last week, but have lost the turnover battle just once in their last nine games.

Aggies notables

• Head coach Jimbo Fisher is one of five active head coaches with a national title. He also ranks fourth among active coaches in the Power 5 in winning percentage (.769), behind Clemson’s Dabo Swinney (.805), Alabama’s Nick Saban (.797) and Georgia’s Kirby Smart (.791).

• In 37 games under Fisher, the Aggies have their opponents under 100 yards rushing 17 times, including six times in the last nine games. A&M is 15-2 when holding the opposition under 100 yards.

• The Aggies have ranked 3rd, 11th and 3rd nationally in time of possession during Fisher’s tenure and held the ball for 35 minutes, 10 seconds last week. Last year, six of A&M’S 10 opponents ran 60 plays or less on offense.

• RB Devon Achane has received All-america honors in track and field in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay. He has clocked a 10.22-second 100meter dash. In only nine career games, he’s averaged 8.9 yards per carry, with six touchdowns in 55 attempts.

• Defensive coordinator Mike Elko has had a top-50 defense nine years in a row, with stops at Bowling Green, Wake Forest, Notre Dame and A&M during that time.
